Three new mollusc species for Slovakia - result of one visit of the garden centre

On August 7, 2015, we conducted a casual malacological survey of the open-air horticultural centre in Bratislava City, Slovakia (coordinates: 48.151260°N, 17.031394°E). The result of the survey are finds of viable populations of three non-native species for Slovakia territory: Hygromia cinctella (Draparnaud, 1801) and Cepaea nemoralis (Linnaeus, 1758). We also found several empty fresh shells of the green garden snail (Helix aperta Born, 1778).

Brown garden snail – Cornu aspersum (O. F. Müller, 1774) in Slovakia

A viable population of the brown garden snail - Cornu aspersum (O. F. Müller, 1774) - was found in April 21, 2015 in central Slovakia for the first time. The species is native to the Mediterranean region (including Egypt) and western Europe, from northwest Africa and Iberia, eastwards to Asia Minor, and northwards to the British Isles.
